Wendy Hsiao

Professor (retired), State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, Macau University of Science & Technology, and served as a faculty member and the Associated Dean at the School of Chinese Medicine, Baptist University

Professor Hsiao obtained her BA degree from National Taiwan University in Phytopathology, and her Ph. D. degree from Columbia University, majoring in cancer molecular biology, with a recent research focus on anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and cancer-preventive herbal medicines. She has published over 100 articles in major journals including Science, Nature, Cell, Molecular Cellular Biology, Oncogene, Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, Carcinogenesis, J Pathology, J Natural Products, and Planta Medica. She was the awardee for funding for several major research projects, including an Area of Excellence Project on Nasopharyngeal Cancer Research; a Collaborative Research Project on searching biomarkers for evidence-based Chinese medicines using modern technology; and several ITF projects. At Macau University of Science & Technology, Prof. Hsiao has launched another pioneer work, harnessing the role of gut microbiota in the functionality of Chinese herbal medicines in various disease models.  For that, she gained generous funding support from the Science and Technology Development Fund of Macau, published over 30 high-impact papers, and holds patents in the US, Europe, and China.
