Yingfei Ma

Dr. Yingfei Ma, Ph.D. supervisor, is a researcher at the Institute of Synthetic Biology, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Ma and his laboratory currently focus on phage to carry out basic and applied research on phage, including: the use of high-throughput sequencing technology, the development of bioinformatics tools to identify phage sequences from environmental and human macro-genomic data, and the study of phage diversity and their functions in the environment and the human body; the use of phage to exclusively kill bacteria, and the use of phage in the treatment of drug-resistant bacterial infections; the early application of phage in aquaculture and clinical control of super drug-resistant bacteria in China. Dr. Ma and his researchers have also designed and synthesized artificial phage by synthetic biology method, and applied them to the treatment of drug-resistant bacteria; they have carried out research on the application of phage to prevent and control super drug-resistant bacteria in aquaculture and clinic earlier in China. Up to now, Dr. Ma has published more than 20 papers as corresponding author in international authoritative journals such as Cell Host Microbe (2023), Nucleic Acids Res (2022,2023), Nat Commun (2022), Microbiome (2018), etc. As a project leader, he has undertaken projects at various levels, such as the National Natural Resources of China (NNRC), Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Shenzhen Peacock Team, and Shenzhen Discipline Layout. He is a member of the Synthetic Biology Division of the Bioengineering Society, the Phage Technology Committee, and the Gut Flora Division of the Biophysical Society.
